Welcome to the Summer Tour of Homes! This is the third year for the tour – and I’m always amazed by all the support you give it each year. (You can check out the previous years here: 2013 or 2014.) As always, there are a lot of familiar favorites, plus this year we’re inviting a few new blogs to the tour as well. So I guess you’d like for me to quit stalling and get to the good part, right? Let’s take a look at my home…
This is what you see when you walk in my front door. Obviously, I’m kind of addicted to aqua.
And this is the same room from a different point of view. While I try to think from a “pretty decorating” perspective – more importantly I try to create spaces that fit our every day needs. Pretty furniture is nice, but it has to be practical as well (otherwise known as velvet slipcovers are the best invention ever!) Lots of things are DIYs in my house, including the industrial storage cart , the striped drapes, the curtain rod, and the HOLLA sign in this room.
I’ve shared so many projects here over the years that are still in use today – like the superhero pillows, the striped pouf, and the lamps even got a hint of DIY added to them.
Even simple things that I haven’t blogged about, like the wood beads strung on jute twine, are DIYs. There’s a few things here and there that we’ve picked up from our travels, too.
A non-DIY that I’m crushing on right now is this cute Y. Collection™ No. 2 candle from Yankee Candle®. I was pleasantly surprised to see the beautiful new shapes of their line in quatrefoil-shaped tins. They come in eight different scents (with different colors and patterns for each one), and this blue one (the scent is called Penelope) is my favorite, of course!
Let’s move on to the kitchen! Almost every inch of this space was built by us. My very first DIY project in this house was building the cabinets. It was my first major attempt and it happened before the blog – but I’m proud of how well they’ve stood the test of time. But if you want a little kitchen DIY from this space – the Self Service Only sign is a quick and easy project. Want a more substantial project? Our DIY floors are one of the most popular posts from the blog.
The curtains in this space (and almost every space in our home) were another DIY. Want to add a little spunk to your kitchen? A sheet of vinyl and you can do a Polka Dot Dishwasher in just a few minutes.
My obsession with house numbers doesn’t seem to be subsiding. I’ve been collecting them for a few years, and we buy new ones any time we take a trip somewhere. I can tell you which ones came from New Orleans, or Charlotte, or Pensacola, or Austin – it’s like a trip down memory lane any time anyone asks about them. Stories of hardware stores and the food we ate and how much fun we had wherever they came from. It’s one of my absolute favorite things about our home, because it represents all the memories we’ve made together.
More DIYs come together in this space, including the headboard, the planked wall, the bold drapes, the light fixture and the Fall Out Boy quote pillow on the bed.
Vintage finds are tucked in here and there, so it counteracts the more minimalist and modern pieces in our home. Contrast is one of my favorite ways to help bring a room to life.
Psstt… that’s another one of those fab Y. Collection™ No. 2 candles (the scent is Emilia) from Yankee Candle®. They’re so stylish I find ways to use them almost everywhere!
Holy piggybank, Batman! It may not be the best “design choice” but that little Batman makes my hubby happy – so that’s enough for me. And I like keeping him happy because he does sweet things like building me a killer closet.
It may be a small walk in, but he completely overhauled it and added beautiful cedar planks.
Closets are notoriously small in mobile homes (I live in a double wide in case you didn’t know,) so we had to make every inch count.
Even after three months of daily use, it still looks all pretty. I love it so much we even took the door off of the closet so I could see it every day.
My most recent makeover was my small home office. It’s only about 125 square feet, and there’s a lot of work that goes on in here – but I infused as much of my own personal taste as I could (because sometimes I have to tame it down to make the rest of the house work for everyone who lives here.) The entire makeover (along with many more photos) can be seen in this post. That brick wall? It’s fake. Can you believe that it’s the ugly 70s style brick paneling with a white wash on top? It’s a lot of bang for your buck at under $75 for the whole wall.
There are a few DIYs in here, including those plexiglass shelves above my desk.
And that’s it for the tour! I hope you enjoyed seeing bits from my home.
Find the next stop on the tour at my sweet friend, The Nester!

Hi Gina,
I recently found your blog when I was searching for DIY mobile home projects. We are seriously thinking about purchasing a double-wide in the next few months. I’m so excited to see your home and all that you have done with it to make it over. I love your style! I had to smile when I saw the lockers because I want to do that as well for more storage.
Glad I found you!

GIna, I was admiring away as I scrolled through this post (a newbie over from “In My Own Style”) until I go to the closet where I was absolutely gobsmacked to find you lived in a double wide. Now I want to live there too! But only if you’ll come over and do it up for me!! Fabulous!

You have a lovely home Gina and, I must confess, aqua and shades of turquoise are favourites of mine as well. Right now though I seem to be going thru a deep red love affair, (enhanced by a Frida Kahlo and parrot tulip love this spring), who knows how long that will last. Your home seems to be beautifully organised as well. How do you keep it so clean? I’d have to do a great deal of photoshop enhancing round here…lol.

I’ve read your blog a ton of times, usually when you are hosting home tours. I did not know you lived in a doublewide, I think I love it even more now! Your closet is awesome and I love your spunky decorating 🙂

Gina, do you make all your signs?!? I love them ~ the script is just beautiful! But everything on your tour is such fun: aqua & turquoise are some of my favorite colors, too! And I’m intrigued by the pine floors, since we have a few rooms left to re-do in our home! I think they would blend really well with stained concrete! I’ll be back again to visit … !

Great job Gina! Once again you’ve outdone yourself. I’m crazy about your new cedar closet. My mom had one growing up and it’s incredible how the smell always takes me back. I wish my closet was as organized! 😉 Love your home office too… It’s beautiful!
Hugs and what a great tour you’ve lined up! xoxo
